The Nikolai Cathedral in Leipzig - where everything started
A light installation with bedea akzent light stones remembers the starting time of the German reunion
At the anniversary of the German reunion in October 2003, a unique artefact was presented to the public. A light installation in the churchyard of the Nikolai cathedral shall remember the activities that happened in the years 1988 and 1989, when the Nikolai cathedral turned out to be the center of East Germany's movement towards freedom.
146 light stones, lit with various colours were installed into the pavement to symbolize the meeting of people during that time inside the churchyard as well as the message which was sent out to change the political situation completely.
6 light sources are coupled by an innovative light moving module ("Akzentor") in a way, that 6 light stones at one time are lit in a delay of 3 minutes to symbolize while growing the increasing number of people coming together.
The project was planned and installed together with architects and engineers. Using bedea-HQI light sources in combination with colour changing modules, synchronized with multi channel light control units, secure function of the installation is assured. The advantages are spares in maintenance and service costs as well as endurance. The light stones are unsensitive to humidity and mechanical shocks.
